Supports
What we actually do
Six kinds of support, described the way they happen rather than the way they are categorised. Most people combine two or three. You can start with one and change your mind.
List of supports
01
Assistance with daily life
Practical support with the parts of a day that are harder to do alone, set up the way you want them done.
- Agreeing what support looks like on an ordinary day, in your words and in writing.
- Support with personal care, morning and evening routines, and preparing meals.
02
Social and community participation
Support to get to the places and people that matter to you, such as classes, work, sport, family, worship, or a regular coffee.
- Talking through what you actually want to do, not what a program offers.
- Support to get there, be there, and get home again.
03
Support coordination
Help to understand the supports in a plan, find providers, and keep the arrangements working, with the participant making the calls.
- Going through the plan together in plain language.
- Mapping options so there is a genuine choice, not a single referral.
04
Building everyday skills
Working on the specific things you want to do yourself, such as cooking, money, travel, appointments, and running your own household.
- Choosing one or two things at a time that you want to be able to do.
- Practising in the real place, meaning your kitchen, your bank, your bus route.
05
Household tasks
Support with cleaning, laundry, shopping and the upkeep that keeps a home running the way you like it.
- A written list of what is done, how often, and how you want it done.
- Cleaning, laundry, linen, rubbish, shopping and putting away.
06
Getting places
Support with travel to appointments, work, study and everyday errands, including learning a route you want to travel alone.
- Planning the trip with you, including what to do if something changes.
- Travelling with you, or meeting you there, whichever you prefer.
None of these quite describe what you need?
Say it in your own words instead. We would rather read a plain description of your week than have you pick a category that nearly fits.
